The four holiday cottages are situated on a 20 acre site comprising of the old farm yard, farm house and immediate surrounding fields. They comprise of 18th century stone byres originally used to house farm animals and later used for cheese production. The horse shoe shaped mews formed by the cottages is closed by a stone wall at the front, which is another original feature of the farm, and creates a small courtyard to the front of the cottages. The courtyard is furnished with several planters to create a pleasant surrounding and a couple of picnic benches are available for use. The cottage walls are solid stone and up to 24 inches thick in places. They were however well insulated during the conversion work and central heating and double glazing provide a warm environment. Slate roofs are in keeping with the local architecture and the quaint interiors of each cottage gives each its own individual charm.
The site includes a small broadleaf wood and a larger fir tree wood, which can provide a pleasant place for a short walk. Wildlife including deer can occasionally be seen. Several landscaped areas provide places for sitting, relaxing and picnicking.
Public footpaths can be taken from Soppitt Farm if you wish to stretch your legs without having to revert to the use of a car and horse riding is available at the neighbouring Redesdale Riding Centre.
